Whose Moon Is That? - Kim Krans

"Whose Moon Is That?" by Kim Krans is about a curious cat that is wondering who owns the moon. Various creatures and landforms begin to exclaim that they own the moon only to be corrected by the moon its self. The book is excellent for students in K-1st grade. In my classroom, I would use this book during science. We would read the book and connect it to the solar system and the planets that exist within it.

This is Not My Hat - Jon Klassen

This Is Not My Hat by Jon Klassen is about a small fish that has stolen a hat from a big fish while it was resting. The story follows the little fish as it tries to justify its wrongdoing. The small fish makes comments such as "The hat looks better on me anyway" and "That fish will never find me." The book is best for K-1st grade and can be used to teach character traits, predictions,  connections. In my classroom, I would have students write a reflection of what the little fish could have done instead of keeping the hat.

Love is - Diane Adams, Claire Keane

Love Is by Diane Adams is a very sweet story about the love between a little girl and her pet duckling. The story takes the reader through the beginning, middle, and end of their relationship. According to the accelerated reader, the book is best for a 2nd grader to read. In my classroom, I would use this book during the Valentines season. I would utilize it to introduce students to a simple form of poetry. After reading this to my class, I would encourage them to write a poem of their own using similar phrases to what the author uses in the text.

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs - Judi Barrett, Ron Barrett

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs by Judi Barrett is a very well-known children's book that was read to me when I was in grade school. The story takes place in Chewandswallow where food falls from the sky three times per day. This book is bound to get students creative and imaginative juices flowing in the classroom. According to the accelerated reader book leveling system, Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs would be suitable for students in 4th grade if I were using this book in a lesson I'd most likely use it during writing. I'd ask my students to create their own "weather menu" and write about what food selections would fall from the sky.
